These home owners in Enfield, CT called us out because the were very uncomfortable up stairs in their home. This particular home is a cape cod construction home. While they are good for storage, they are very very inefficient. One of the areas of the home that make it inefficient is the kneewalls. To fix this we put in our Super Kneewall treatment. This consist of blocking the floor cavities below so cold air cannot get into the floor. Next we put up runs of our 4" silverglo foam board insulation all along the slopes to give it some much need R-value. Now these Kneewalls are insulated and air sealed. These homeowners can now live more comfortable in their home!
This home owner in Enfield, CT called us out to see if we could reduce the dryness in her home. Our homes get dry because of the dry air in the winter season. To help reduce the dryness, one of the things we did was install a basement door. First thing we do is rip out the old door and framing. Then we put in pressure treated wood for a frame and install the door. We air seal the gaps and finish it off with some nice trim. This door will now help remedy the dryness problem in this home!
These home owners in Enfield, CT had us come out because they had ice dams last year and didn't want them to damage their home. Ice damming occurs when the heat that you pay for rises up into your attic and heat the bottom of the roof deck to above 32 degrees. Then the snow melts and runs down the roof until it gets to the end where there is no more heat loss heat up the roof and it re-freezes. This can lead to very expensive water damage that nobody wants to deal with. To fix this problem it makes sense to seal the attic up so no more of the hot air we pay for can escape into the attic. One of the things we have to do is seal up the can lights in the home. One can light lets 10 cubic feet of air escape a minute! Most home don't just have one light, some have 10 or more! To fix this we go around and put or tite' shell can light covers on. These are made of rock wool so it is fire retardant making it safe to put over the light. Then we air seal that cover to the sheet rock so no air can pass. This home is now one step closer to to getting rid of the ice dams!
This home owner in Enfield, CT saw us at a home show and had us come take a look at some problems they where having. The problem was that in the winter, the house was always super cold! When we got to the home our building science specialist went into the attic and saw why this problem was happening. There was no insulation in the attic!
To fix this problem we installed our Super Attic treatment. First thing to do is remove any of the old insulation that was up there. Then we have to move the thermal barrier from the floor of the attic to the roof deck of the attic. To do this we use our 4 inch silverglo EPS foam board and attach it to the roof rafters. While doing this we have to make sure that we air seal in between each piece of foam board to make it air tight.
Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions has come and completed the work, this home owner can now be more comfortable in their home!
This homeowner in Enfield, CT called because he had mold in his attic. He described the problem and was concerned if the mold would cause further health issues. We sent our building science specialist out to assess the problem and determined what caused the problem. We found that there was a lot of hot air escaping into the attic during the winter months. When the hot air meets the cold roof deck, condensation will occur and the increase of humidity will allow mold grow and spread.
To stop this problem, we properly air sealed and insulated the home and stopped the hot air from getting into the attic.
Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions fixed this home, the homeowners can live in a more comfortable and healthier home!
