Whole House Fan Cover in East Longmeadow, MA

These homeowners in East Longmeadow, MA had issues with drafts in their home. One of the sources of these drafts was a whole house fan. Before air conditioning was common in homes, whole house fans were installed in the floor of the attic to pull warm air inside the home out and allow for cooler air to come in through opened windows. With air conditioning, there is no longer a need for such a fan, which is now just another spot for the air the homeowner pays to heat and cool to leak into the attic and out through the vents to the  outside.

To seal the fan off, we use our David Lewis Whole House Fan Cover. The cover is made of our SilverGlo graphite infuse insulation board and sealed with expanding foam. The homeowners let us know that they may want to use the fan in the future, so we cut a removable lid out of the top piece of foam board which can easily be taken off whenever the fan is going to be used.

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this home is less drafty and the homeowners still have options available for cooling their home in the summer.

Insulating Cold Basement Walls in East Longmeadow, MA

This East Longmeadow, MA customer reached out to Fogarty's Home Services to have a part of her basement finished for additional living space in her home. Before we can finish walls in a basement, we must properly insulate them. Poured concrete basement walls are are perpetually cold - about 17°F cooler than we like the interior of our homes to be. The dense concrete has a lot of mass and heat from the basement constantly flows into and through the wall by conduction and they can never be heated up.  Fogarty's Home Services fixed this problem by installing our Foamax™ insulation board on the basement walls. The Foamax™ polyiso board has a foil facing to reflect heat so the insulation isn't doing all the work by itself. Now our happy homeowner will have a warmer, more comfortable basement, warmer floors above the basement, less condensation in the summertime, and lower energy bills. In addition, her walls are now prepped for basement finishing.

Air Sealing, Insulation, and Storage Area in South Deerfield, MA

This homeowner in South Deerfield, MA called us out to their home for a Home Energy Evaluation. This home had some old, inefficient fiberglass without air any sealing in their attic. This allows conditioned or heated air that is paid for to escape the home.

We first removed all of the old, fiberglass insulation and properly disposed of the materials. We air seal all top plates, end plated, and any areas where air can escape from the home into the attic and be lost with foam. This homeowner wanted to be able to still have a storage area so we built them an insulated catwalk space for them. Now, blow our TruSoft Cellulose insulation into the attic. Cellulose will fill in any odd-shaped voids and gaps. Now, thanks to Fogarty's Home Services, this home will have more even temperatures, and is more energy efficient!

Installing Blown-In Insulation in South Deerfield, MA

This homeowner in South Deerfield, MA called us looking to remove and replace his old insulation. The insulation was low quality, and the homeowner was hoping that new blown-in insulation would help make his home more comfortable.

Our team started with removing the old blown-in insulation. The loose insulation was vacuumed out into giant filter bags with a very long hose. We then air sealed the entire attic using our ZypFoam treatment, and insulated the chimney and scuttle cover. We also installed baffles to ensure proper ventilation.

Once the entire attic was clean and sealed, it was time to install our own TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. Luckily for the homeowner, blown in insulation fills all gaps and odd shaped voids. Their home will stay comfortable for years to come!

SuperAttic™ Installation in Amston, CT

This Amston, CT homeowner reached out to Fogarty's Home Services concerned about their attic space. They were using this space for storage, but it wasn't energy efficient. Their attic floor was allowing air from inside the house to leak into the attic where it was lost. For each cubic foot of air that leaks out, a cubic foot of air from the outside enters the bottom of the house, making the lower levels cold and drafty. Their attic was a hostile environment because of the increased cold in the winter and very uncomfortable heat in the summer in this space. To combat this issue, Fogarty's Home Services installed our SuperAttic™ system. We use SilverGlo™ EPS foam insulation board with graphite on the underside of the roof deck. The graphite gives it superior R-value and a foil face on both sides reflects heat out in summer and back in during winter. The roof is still vented. No harsh chemicals are sprayed in your home, like spray foam. The attic is now part of the conditioned space in the home, and ducts in the attic are no longer in a hostile environment. The attic is clean, less dusty and suitable for storage. We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!
