This home owner in Coventry, CT had some concerns about her door leading into her basement. The door that was there now was broken and didn't lock so safety was a big concern. The other problem was that the old door was letting a lot of water come into the basement when it rained. When our team of certified installers got there. they took the old door out, caulked where the new door was going and put the new door on. Now this homeowner has a nice new door that locks and keeps the rain out of her basement!
This homeowner in Coventry, CT because they were ready to upgrade their insulation. Upon evaluating their attic we noticed mold! Mold can be very dangerous. It is harmful to have in your home, especially for pets, young children, and older people.
We knew we needed to help this home. First, we removed all of the old, fiberglass insulation and properly disposed of the materials properly Next, we spray our Mold-X treatment throughout the attic to neutralize any nooks and crannies that can be affected. Then we use our Mold-X botanical cleaner to clean all stains off of effected services. Now we are ready for the next step.
We seal up all top plates and any areas where air can escape from the home into the attic and be lost with foam. We even made an insulated storage area as shown in the after photo. Now we are ready to blow our TruSoft Cellulose insulation into the attic. Cellulose will fill in any odd-shaped voids and gaps.

This Homeowner in Coventry, CT called us out to their home for an estimate to update their attic insulation. When we arrived, we saw that they had old inefficient insulation.
Over many years insulation collects dirt, dust, pollen, bugs, and all kinds of undesirable things. We began by removing the old inefficient dirty old insulation. We bagged it all up and disposed of it properly off site. We then vacuumed the attic with a giant vacuum located outside with giant filter bags, and a very long, fat hose.
Now that the attic is clean, its ready for proper air sealing and installation of clean, new, fresh trusoft insulation or one of our other Dr. Energy Saver strategies to make your home more comfortable and energy efficient.
This homeowner called us because they had a finished room in their cottage that was very cold. Under the room was an exposed crawlspace with no insulation at all. They asked us to come evaluate and make the room warmer for them.
The Building Science Specialist completed the evaluation and concluded that the best solution to this issue was to insulate the underside of the floor beneath the finished room with SilverGlo™ Foam Board and enclose the area. We first treated the exposed wood with MoldX2™ Cleaner and Botanical to eliminate and prevent future mold formation. We then installed the SilverGlo™, making sure to enclose all pipes and water lines, then we air sealed all penetrations with spray foam and finally enclosed the whole area with skirt board along the perimeter. Now this room is warm and ready to enjoy to it's full potential. We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!
This homeowner in Coventry, CT called us because of her concern over her crawl space. She was concerned due to the possibility of rodents and mold that were in her dirt crawl space. This is something we see often. Millions of homes were built with vented dirt crawl spaces. Now all building scientists agree - that was a big mistake. Now building codes are changing. In the winter, vents let cold air directly into our home. Floor insulation sags away from the sub floor and the cold air gets above it - rendering the insulation useless. In the summer the vents let warm humid air in which is cooled by the subterranean crawl space. This caused the relative humidity to go way up and condensation to form all over the crawl space surfaces including floor joists and ducts. Mold grows and wood rots, while insect and other pests flourish. Musty odors can be noticed upstairs as mold spores travel upwards into the living space. Eventually rotted floor joist must be replaced and mold must be remediated. An unending stream of water vapor comes up from the ground adding to the moisture load in the crawl space and house. The damp air is harder to heat and cool. Result - condensation, mold, rot, pests and odors, cold floors, drafts, uncomfortable home, higher fuel and electric bills.
Fogarty's Home Services helped this homeowner by encapsulating her crawlspace. The vents and other air leaks to the outside were sealed, often using our insulated vent covers. Walls were insulated with SilverGlo™ insulation with a reflective radiant barrier face. SilverGlo™ foam has graphite infused into the foam to increase the R-value by 24% over standard foam. A dimpled plastic drainage matting was installed across the floor to create an airspace and thermal break, and TerraBlock™ floor insulation was installed over it. Finally the heavy duty, 20 mil thick CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner was installed permanently across the dirt floor - sealed with mechanical fasteners to the walls and spiked to the floor. CleanSpace™ features Ultrafresh™ anti-microbial ingredients in the product. Results - much lower humidity, much warmer floors upstairs, less drafts, more comfortable house, lower fuel and electric bills.
