Insulating a Basement in Belchertown, MA

This homeowner in Belchertown, MA called us with a mold issue. He was hoping that we would be able to identify the mold source and prevent it from coming back. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived in the home, he noted that the basement had insufficient insulation - there was fiberglass insulation installed that was falling off of the ceiling due to the moisture content.

Fogarty's Home Services was able to help this customer with the home. After the removal of the fiberglass batts was completed, we went in and applied two-part closed cell spray foam to the rim joist. This spray foam gets into all the cracks and crevices in the rim joist, sealing it and insulating the basement.

Now, this homeowner will have lower energy bills and a more comfortable home!

Insulating a Chimney in Millers Falls, MA

This homeowner in Millers Falls, MA called us with issues with her attic insulation. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived in the home, he noticed that the area around the chimney was not insulated. This is a fairly common occurrence, as normally, you are not able to put anything within 2" of the chimney that could be combustible. However, this leaves a large gap that is uninsulated -- causing your energy bills to rise and the air you pay to condition to escape to the attic.

Fogarty's Home Services has a fairly simple solution to this problem. This customer's recommended solution was a "chimney wrap". We first had to put metal flashing between the wood framing and the chimney. This was sealed with "fire caulk", a high temperature caulk. We then used fireproof "Rock Wool" insulation panels around the chimney. This made it possible for us to use our blown-in TruSoft™ cellulose insulation in the rest of the attic. These solutions lowered our customer's energy bills and made her home more comfortable year round!

Making a Basement in Storrs Mansfield, CT Warmer

These homeowners in Storrs Mansfield, CT had issues with their basement being cold and energy bills being high. For those with laundry set ups in the basement, it is extra important for the basement to be comfortable and not have to worry about freezing pipes. Not only that, but a basement that is not properly air sealed will let cold air from outside up into the home, making the heating system work harder to keep the home warm.

There was ineffective fiberglass insulation that we had to remove before starting our process, it was starting to fall apart and would only deteriorate further if left in. We sealed the rim joist with expanding foam and installed our Foamax polyiso insulation foam board onto the walls with our Foam-Tite fasteners. Foamax has flame retardant properties as well as a foil facing to reflect heat to keep it in.

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these homeowners will no longer have to be uncomfortable in their basement or worry about high energy bills.

Knee Wall Insulation

The floor upper level, the ceiling of the lower level and knee-wall are all cold in winter and hot from radiant roof heat in the summer. This result makes the knee-wall space not suitable for storage since it is dusty and very cold or hot. To resolve this Fogarty Home Services uses blocks of SilverGlo™ foam Insulation that is installed between ceiling joist bays. Outside the blocks, the surface of the sealing is sealed with sprayed foam or SilverGlo™ foam.

Reduce Ice Damming and Improve Energy Efficiency in Monson, MA

This homeowner called us because they were having a serious issue with ice dams. Water was leaking in, even though they had a new roof.

When our Building Science Specialist evaluated the home, he realized that the second floor of the Cape style home suffered from inadequate insulation and air was leaking in through the soffits into the kneewall spaces.

To solve this problem, we first removed all existing batt insulation and prepped for new insulation in the attic area and air sealed the can lights in the cathedral ceiling. We then installed our SuperKneeWall™ Insulation System with SilverGlo™ on the walls and between floor joists as needed. We dense packed the roof, through the soffits with blown-in TruSoft™ Cellulose, air sealed the floor with ZypFoam™ and then insulated the attic floor with TruSoft™ Cellulose.

The second floor of this home is now properly air sealed and insulated and airflow will be distributed evenly throughout the home resulting in lower energy bills and no more ice dams!
