Replacing Attic Insulation in Barre, MA

This homeowner in Barre, MA called us hoping that we would be able to replace his old and inefficient insulation. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived, he found that the attic was not air sealed and was insulated with inefficient fiberglass insulation. This meant that there were severe air leaks and temperature issues.

We first had to remove all of the fiberglass insulation. This was bagged and placed in our truck in order to be disposed of. We then vacuumed up the remaining loose insulation.

After that, we air sealed every gap in the attic. To do that, we utilize Zypfoam™ expanding foam. After doing other necessary services prior to insulation, we install baffles (air chutes) into the rafter bays as necessary. We finally use our TruSoft™ blown-in cellulose insulation, blown in to the optimal R-value. This insulation fills all gaps and voids, and prevents thermal bridging by filling over framing members. This homeowner now has a properly insulated home -- it is warmer, more comfortable, and even quieter!

Air Sealing and Insulating Attic in North Stonington, CT

These Homeowners in North Stonington, CT Called us out to their home for insulation and air sealing of the attic. When we arrived, we noticed there was old inefficient fiberglass insulation in the attic.  We removed all the fiberglass insulation and vacuumed up all the debris. Next, we started air sealing the attic. We sealed up all the gaps and odd shaped voids where air was able to leak and is lost. We then insulated the attic with trusoft cellulose insulation. The access point to their attic was through the attic stairs hatch. This hatchway is a main point of where air can leak from. We installed a David Lewis Hatch Cover. What that cover does, is it rests right over the pull-down stair hatch. The cover is made of lightweight silver Glo foam insulation, it can be easily lifted aside to go up into your attic and set it back in place when you leave. It is installed over an insulated platform. It stops air from leaking down into the home and from the home up into the attic. We also insulated their ducts with Silver Glo and spray foam insulation.

Thanks to Fogarty's Home Services, these homeowners will have a more comfortable home, lower energy bills.

Making A Home More Comfortable in Plainfield, CT

These homeowners called us because they wanted the upstairs of their home to be more comfortable year-round and they also wanted their issues with Ice Dams resolved. These homeowners were also experiencing moisture issues throughout the home, especially in the basement.

Our Building Science Specialist was able to do a whole home evaluation based on the issues at hand and came up with the following solutions: First we would remove and dispose of old, dirty existing batt insulation in the attic and prep for fresh, clean insulation. Next we would extend the bath vent and duct bath fan through the gable end and to the outside so the air is no longer feeding into the attic and creating lots of moisture and mold. We air sealed and insulated the scuttle cover. We had to create a new entrance to the knee wall areas where we installed a Super KneeWall™ System with Silverglo™, then we dense packed the roof with TruSoft™ Cellulose insulation, air sealed the floor with ZypFoam™ and finished by insulating the attic floor with TruSoft™ Cellulose as well. Next we air sealed the basement with closed-cell Spray Foam insulation along the Rim Joists and installed Foamax™ board on the walls. We also Removed and replaced a few exterior doors.

Reducing Inconsistent Temperature in a Home in Charlton, MA

A homeowner called us from Charlton, MA to request a full Home Energy Evaluation. The problem they were having was inconsistent temperatures throughout their house. It would be cold in one room and hot in another. This specific style home has a sloped roof, with knee-walls in the attic that are very difficult to keep warm or cold depending on the season. This knee wall was directly above a bedroom. The lack of any insulation was making it extremely hard to cool and heat the upper level of their home, especially in the bedrooms.

We used our Super Kneewall Treatment to fix this problem. First, we use our 4" SilverGlo insulation boards to block off air from getting through the ceiling joists and bays. We sprayed our one part foam to seal the edges and made sure no air can travel through the cracks. Then, we installed our SilverGlo foam boards under the rafters up to the knee-wall and sealed with one part foam. Next, we had to dense pack the roof slopes with our TruSoft cellulose insulation to stop air flow as well as insulate this non insulated attic. Our last step was to blow our TruSoft cellulose insulation above the flat ceiling.

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these homeowners can now live more comfortably in their home with more consistent temperatures all year long!
