Dealing with a musty smell in your basement can be trickier than expected, just like our Saint Paul homeowner discovered. The before photo captures a neglected crawl space, untouched for decades, silently contributing to the discomfort. Understanding the need for a significant transformation, we brought in our magic wands: CleanSpace® and spray foam insulation. As you can observe in the after picture, these solutions not only revitalized the space but locked out the dampness, providing a persistent solution and a breath of fresh air above.
Previously, our customer in Arden Hills, MN, struggled with their spacious but underutilized crawl space, plagued by unwanted mice activity. Their goal was twofold: to make the space usable for storage and to enhance their home's value. We addressed their concerns by installing our CleanSpace® solution, spray foam insulation, and TerraBlock™ bottom crawl space insulation. The transformation is evident in the photos; the after image shows a seamless, clean area ready for storage, free from pests. This home in Solon Springs, WI had been in the family for nearly 50 years. The crawl space support beams were failing and the homeowner was in need of a permanent solution. They contacted DBS after learning about our crawl space support systems.
DBS Design Specialist Nathan Schroeder went to the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the foundation support work. Nathan saw failure of the existing support system and recommended installing SmartJack® stabilization beams to offer a permanent solution. This home was repaired by DBS Foreman Taylor Allen and his production crew.
This crawl space support system consisted of 38 feet of supplement steel beam, running parallel to the crawl space dirt floor. From there, they installed 9 SmartJack® telescoping support posts. To encapsulate the dirt crawl space, they installed a vapor barrier called CleanSpace®. This thick poly sheet is place on top of a drainage matting layer and will assist in keep the dirt floor free from moisture build-up.
Finally, our crew applied closed-cell spray foam to the rim joists in the crawl space to insulate and air seal the space. This will prevent cold air, pests, and water from entering the space. Ultimately, this will protect the foundation, and allow for a more energy efficient home.
This home can now be enjoyed without worry of further structural damage!
