In Duluth, MN, a homeowner had big dreams of turning their half-finished basement into a comfortable living area, complete with a new bathroom and laundry space. However, standing water and damp walls stood in the way of making that dream a reality. As shown in the before image, what was meant to be a cozy expansion had become a storage area for worries.

To resolve this, we installed our WaterGuard® and CleanSpace® systems to tackle the moisture issues at their source. The after photo demonstrates the remarkable transformation—a dry, ready-to-be-finished basement that’s now prepared for the homeowner’s vision to come to life. This project reinforces that no dream is too big when you have the right solutions in place.

This Duluth, MN had been standing for 100 years when homeowners bought it in 2012. They started noticing water coming in through cracks in the north wall of the basement, leading to damage to the walls and floor. Looking for a permanent solution, they reached out to DBS after learning about us on local radio. 

DBS Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo visited the home and conducted a free, no-obligation estimate for the work in the basement. It was determined that a WaterGuard® drainage system would be dug around the perimeter of the basement, accompanied by the CleanSpace® vapor barrier on the wall. 

DBS Field Supervisor Kevin Steffey was the foreman on the job, leading the production crew's installation of the mentioned products. The waterproofing system was completed with two sump pumps, SuperSump® Premier Pump System and an UltraSump®. Those pumps were connected to discharge lines, connected to IceGuard® drains to prevent wintertime freezing.
