These homeowners in Pittsfield, MA called us out to help them make their bedroom cooler in the summer. To do this, we have to properly air seal and insulate this attic. Before we do this, we have to completely empty the attic so we can see every single top plate, end plate and penetration in the attic. This home had no air sealing and a layer of fiberglass bats and cellulose blown on top of it. First, we get our large vacuum and take out all of the loose blown cellulose. After that, we get our black contractor bags and fill them with the fiberglass bats and take them out of the home. Now that all of the insulation has been taken out of the attic, it's ready to be properly air sealed and insulated!

When we got to the home our building science expert was on his inspection he noticed that the attic had barely any insulation! No wonder why he was spending so much on his bills!

To fix this we have to insulate the attic to stop the air that we pay for, from leaving the home. In this case it was a walk up attic so instead of insulating the attic floor we moved the thermal barrier to the attic ceiling. To do this we installed our Super Attic treatment. This treatment uses EPS foam board on the rafters making sure to air seal in between each piece of Silverglo EPS foam board. once we do this we go around the attic making sure every crack is air sealed to make sure this attic is air tight. 

Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions has come out and took care of this problem, this home owner will save a ton of money on heating and cooling his home!

This home owner in Pittsfield, MA called us to her home to see if would could help reduce her ice damning problems. When our building science specialist was on his inspection, he notice that the attic was poorly insulated. This was letting the air that this home owner paid to he escape into the attic. Once it is there it starts to warm up the roof deck to above 32 degrees. Then it starts to melt the snow on the roof, letting the water run down to the gutter line were it re freezes. When this happens over and over again, the ice dam that it builds up can cause massive amounts of damage to your home. 

To fix this problem, we have to properly air seal and insulate this attic space so the hot air cannot get into the attic. First thing we do is remove the old fiberglass insulation. After we do this we air seal the entire attic making sure to get every top plate, end plate, and all the penetrations. Then we can blow our Trusoft cellulose insulation to 20 inches to get an R-value of 60.

Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions has came to this home and completed this treatment, this home owner will not have to worry about ice dams ever again!

A Homeowner called us out to their historical home built in 1900 in Pittsfield, MA to take a look at a problem they were having. They originally called us to give a full Home Energy Evaluation to help understand what was going in in their home. The problem they were having was due to no insulation in the attic, resulting in ice damns in the winter. When we got to the home and performed our Home Energy Evaluation we noticed that there was no insulation at all in the attic. This specific style home has a sloped roof, with knee-walls in the attic that are very difficult to keep warm or cold depending on the season. This knee wall is directly above a bedroom. The lack of any insulation was making it extremely hard to cool and heat the upper level of their home, in the bedroom living spaces. This made these homeowners uncomfortable in their home all year round.

To fix this problem, we use our Super Kneewall Treatment. Since we have no old insulation to take out and dispose of, we can get right to blocking and air sealing. First, we use our 4" SilverGlo insulation boards to block off air from getting through the ceiling joists and bays. Our SilverGlo expanded foam insulation boards are infused with graphite which increases R-Value by 24%. Around those blocks, we spray our one part foam to seal the edges and make sure no air can travel through the cracks. Then, we install our SilverGlo foam boards under the rafters up to the knee-wall and also sealed with one part foam. Now we have properly sealed so that outdoor conditions can no longer effect this living space. Next, we have to dense pack the roof slopes with our TruSoft cellulose insulation to stop air flow as well as insulate this non insulated attic. Our last step is to blow our TruSoft cellulose insulation above the flat ceiling. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these homeowners can now live more comfortable in their bedrooms all year long! They also will no longer experience ice dams!!!
